Alcoa supports young minds in WA

Alcoa Australia has partnered with WAbased youth mental health organisation zero2hero, contributing $40,000 to support a Camp Hero program that builds confidence, leadership and mental health skills in young people in regional shires.

The organisation runs a variety of school programs that give young people the skills they need to become mental health leaders in their communities.

Alcoa’s Huntly, Pinjarra, Willowdale and Wagerup sites have come together to support the April program, enabling 40 students to attend activities at Nanga Bush Camp in Dwellingup.

zero2hero CEO Ashlee Harrison said she was delighted Alcoa has chosen to support them with a $40,000 contribution.

“Each contribution, big or small, can help empower a young person’s life. Mental health within the regions is particularly vulnerable and thanks to Alcoa’s support, we will be able to deliver hand-on activities and adventures for five days, helping to equip young people with tools to support their mental health,” Ashlee said.

Alcoa’s Senior Community Relations & Communications Advisor Georgia Haines said five days in nature will provide young people with the chance to step outside their comfort zone and learn invaluable skills.

“We’re delighted to partner with an organisation that helps improve the mental health of young people in the communities where we live and work. zero2hero enables students to get out into nature, build confidence, develop leadership skills, form lasting friendships and gain practical tools to support their own wellbeing and their friends who rely on them”, Georgia said.

zero2hero is dedicated to educating, engaging and empowering young heroes to become mental health leaders and help prevent suicide in Western Australia.
